Tonkean Featured in 2025 Gartner Hype Cycle For Intake Management and Procurement Orchestration

We're excited to share that Gartner has featured Tonkean in the 2025 Hype Cycle for Procurement and Sourcing Solutions in the Intake Management and Procurement Orchestration categories.

There’s much that’s exciting about each category, starting with procurement orchestration, whose potential benefit to enterprise procurement teams Gartner rates as “transformational.”

As Gartner analyst Chaithanya Paradarami writes, “Procurement orchestration platforms enable procurement and sourcing leaders to achieve strategic business outcomes by using enriched procurement data to augment decisions and execute required workflows. This orchestrated approach empowers procurement and sourcing leaders to influence and demonstrate the impact of their operational decisions on desired business outcomes.”

Gartner’s research further validates the importance of procurement teams being able to effectively and seamlessly orchestrate their organizations’ various component parts, from data stored in systems like Salesforce to the skillsets of human employees to AI agents that can pull information from all your internal systems and present them to humans when and where they need it.

What kind of orchestration qualifies as "transformational"?

As Paradarami also mentions, however, not all orchestration vendors are created equal. “Vendors in intake or process workflow management are claiming to offer orchestration capabilities, but it’s important to note that quite often, these are not the comprehensive procurement orchestration platform capabilities described” in the report.

There exist, in truth, several different kinds of orchestration platforms, and it’s important to understand the differences between them. In-suite or in-system orchestration enables you to orchestrate certain predefined parts of certain kinds of processes, but only inside one system. Other kinds of orchestration technology can connect with and automate tasks across select systems.

It’s only orchestration that allows you to orchestrate entire processes consisting of many different components seamlessly across all relevant parts of the enterprise tech stack that can truly be called transformational. This kind of holistic connectivity enables you to not only automate processes across different data systems and departments, but surface innovative capabilities—such as intelligent, specialized AI agents—directly to employees in the environments where they already work in accordance with how they like to work.

Tonkean exemplifies this sort of orchestration. We’re thrilled to be recognized as such by Gartner, and we’re excited by the growing appreciation of the importance of process orchestration as a procurement technology category.

For modern procurement teams to be able to do the kind of work that their organizations very much need them to do—mitigate risk, reduce costs, partner with the business, encourage innovation across the organization, empower employees and improve experiences—they need tools that allow them to create processes that foster collaboration and break down silos. And they need a means of making better use of their own time, and of creating employee experiences that not only encourage adoption, but that provide operational value that only procurement can provide. They need, simply put, a way to orchestrate.
